Fillings are used to restore tooth structure lost or damaged due to tooth decay. After removing the decay and disinfecting the tooth, a filling material is added to rebuild the form, function, and esthetics of the natural tooth. Traditionally, direct restorative fillings were done with silver colored amalgam or gold, but now we have several choices of tooth-colored filling materials, including composites, several kinds of porcelain, and zirconia.

Composite fillings, in addition to being more esthetically pleasing, bond directly to the tooth surface unlike traditional fillings. For our composites, we use only the most advanced BPA free materials.

Dr. McInturff will discuss with you which filling material is best for your needs.

In this recent case, we replaced the failing silver amalgam filling with a BPA free composite.
