Your First Visit

Welcome to Pullman Dental Care! We look forward to getting to know you. At Pullman Dental Care we believe the amount of time we devote to understanding your specific dental needs and the attention we give to your comfort and well-being truly sets us apart.

 

When scheduling your first appointment, please let us know if you have any specific questions or concerns regarding care you may have received elsewhere, broken or missing teeth, or dental discomfort. This will enable us to allow enough time to thoroughly address your needs. If you have dental pain or infection, we will want to schedule you as soon as possible (we can usually accommodate patients within 24 hours), and we will likely recommend that your routine screening examination and cleaning be scheduled as a separate visit (note: Washington Dental Service and many Delta Dental insurance plans will disallow emergency care and diagnostics if done at your teeth cleaning visit!).

 

Your first routine visit with us will include:

-Welcome introduction to our office and staff

-Thorough review of your relevant health and dental history

-Complete examination of your gums, teeth, restorations, and oral health

-Cancer screening of the oral and facial tissues

-Review of findings and discussion of treatment options

-A complete list of any recommended treatments, appointments, cost, and insurance estimates

 

If you have received dental care elsewhere before seeing us for the first time, records of your treatment may be easily transferable to our office. Access to your previous records will help us determine whether there have been any significant changes since your last dental treatment, help us determine what additional x-rays may be necessary to diagnose any problems, and reduce to the total number of x-rays needed. Simply ask your previous office to email your x-rays and dental records to us at: info@pullmandentalcare.com or if you prefer, we will be happy to call that office to request records.

 

Your Child’s First Visit

We love children and treat patients 2 years old and older. We adapt our care for the specific needs of each individual child. For very young children, the child is initially accompanied by a parent and sits on the parent’s lap. During these "happy visits" we will discuss with the parent the child's home care and diet habits as well as fluoride history. We will also discuss any specific concerns the parent may have and offer advice when needed. Usually these discussions are lighthearted and humorous, and meanwhile the child is allowed time to become familiar with our office and with Dr. McInturff. When working with our young patients we always:

 

-Allow the child time to assess us before we begin assessing the child.

-We never lie to or deceive a child, never try to hide anything from them, never talk down to them.

-We never promise anything we might not be able to deliver, such as "You won't feel a thing". On the other hand, we make sure that our strategies for managing patient comfort are effective.

-We choose words carefully: funny words are great, sugarcoated words are bad.

-We answer all their questions honestly and thoroughly.

-We avoid needlessly scary words.

-We make sure our young patients get praise and prizes and leave feeling good about their visit.

-Children can sense if we are competent, so we make sure that we are.

All young patients will receive a caries (cavities) risk assessment at their first visit. This is a very simple procedure. A cotton swab sample of the patient's plaque is analyzed scientifically to determine the presence and numbers of certain decay-causing bacteria, and the results are available within minutes. Depending on the results of this test, the assessment of other risk factors, and the patient's overall acceptance of the procedures, we may or may not recommend proceeding with teeth cleaning, x-rays, and fluoride at the first visit. Our recommendations often vary with younger patients (ages 2-4), but usually for patients 4 years old and older, we can complete all of their preventive and diagnostic care at the initial visit (with the exception of any necessary sealants, which are usually placed at a subsequent visit). For the young patients ages 2-4 that need to be rescheduled, we usually try to reschedule them within a few weeks of their initial visit, while they can still remember how fun it was.


Insurance & Patient Co-payments
We know insurance can be confusing! We can help you understand your benefits and get the maximum possible from your insurance, Health Savings Account, or Flex Spending Account. When we get the Patient Registration Form information from you, we verify your plan benefits and can provide you with the information you want about your plan.


When you need treatment, we can provide you with a detailed plan, which includes an estimate of how much your insurance company may pay for each procedure, as well as the portion you will be expected to pay at the time of service.

We are contracted providers for several dental insurance companies, including: all of the Delta Dental Plan groups, Aetna, Assurant, and United Concordia; and we continue to evaluate and join new insurance groups. And of course, we are happy to provide care and submit insurance to any insurance plan that you have!

 

Financial Policy
• Payment of any account balance is due in full within 30 days of statement date.
• We gladly accept Visa, Discover, American Express, or MasterCard payments.
• Payment plans are available through www.CareCredit.com.


Patient Appointments
Patients are seen by appointment only. We make every effort to be on time for our patients, and we ask the same courtesy from your family. If you cannot keep an appointment, please notify us immediately, giving a minimum of 48 hour notice to avoid any missed appointment fees. We realize that unexpected illnesses and emergencies may occur, but we ask for your assistance in this regard.
